What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda, yoga’s sister science, is an ancient path of healing that helps you reconnect with your natural rhythms.

Where yoga brings movement and breath, Ayurveda offers nourishment, sacred rhythm, and deep restoration. It sees you as a whole person, body, mind, and spirit, shaped by nature’s elements and the seasons of your life. If you’ve ever wondered why your energy dips at certain times of day, why some foods feel grounding and others leave you foggy, or why stress shows up in your body the way it does, Ayurveda holds the answers.

Through personalized guidance on food, herbs, yoga, daily habits, and deeper self-care, Ayurveda invites you to live in harmony with your unique constitution, and to feel vibrant, clear, and deeply supported from within.

Your next step

Your journey into Ayurveda begins with a personalized Ayurvedic assessment

An Ayurvedic assessment is a personalized deep dive into your health, lifestyle, and well-being through the lens of Ayurveda. Unlike a quick-fix approach, this holistic assessment looks at the root causes of imbalance rather than just addressing symptoms. During a consultation, we explore your prakriti (natural constitution you are born with) and vikriti (current imbalances) by examining your digestion, sleep patterns, energy levels, emotional tendencies, and daily habits. Through this process, we uncover how your doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—are influencing your health and what adjustments can help bring you back into balance.

What you will gain from our series of three consultations:

What kinds of issues does Ayurveda address?

  • Digestive issues & gut health – through diet, lifestyle recommendations, and herbal medicines Ayurveda offers robust healing and support for anyone suffering from digestive issues.
  • Stress, anxiety, & mental clarity – Ayurveda is a holistic system that honors the connections between body, mind, and spirit. As such, Ayurveda approaches mental well-being and care from all three directions.
  • Sleep disorders and fatigue – recognizing your body’s own needs and integrating your lifestyle into the natural rhythms of the day and the seasons is the heart of Ayurveda. By encouraging practices like meditation and yoga, and by ingesting supportive foods and herbs, Ayurveda will help you improve the quality of your sleep and your energy levels.
  • Hormonal & metabolic health – Ayurveda is particularly effective in supporting hormonal balance—whether it’s menstrual health, menopause, thyroid function, or metabolic conditions. It views hormonal imbalances as disruptions in Pitta (heat), Kapha (stagnation), or Vata (irregularity) and corrects them with food, herbs, and daily rhythms that support the endocrine system
  • Chronic inflammation and immune support – Ayurveda recognizes that chronic inflammation is often the result of accumulated toxins (Ama) and poor digestion. It uses anti-inflammatory herbs like turmeric, Triphala, and Guduchi, along with cleansing routines like seasonal detoxes (Panchakarma), to boost immunity, reduce inflammation, and restore vitality.

About James

James Sanders Yoga and Ayurveda Teacher

As an Ayurvedic Health Counselor trained at the Mount Madonna Institute (founded by Baba Hari Dass), I help people reconnect with their natural rhythms through food, daily rituals, rest, and breath. Ayurveda offers a beautiful, time-tested framework for understanding why we feel out of balance and what might gently bring us back. In each assessment, we explore your unique constitution, the imbalances that may be affecting your energy, digestion, sleep, or mood, and practical ways to restore harmony and feel good in your own skin.

I’ve also been a dedicated yoga practitioner for over twenty years and hold a 500-hour RYT teaching credential with advanced training in anatomy, the subtle body, and somatic movement. Yoga taught me how to feel. Ayurveda showed me how to live in alignment with those feelings. Together, they offer a holistic path that’s regenerative, not depleting, especially as we move through midlife and beyond. My role is to listen deeply and offer you tools that fit your real life, so you can move forward feeling nourished, supported, and whole.
